Abstract:

This paper attempts to critically analyze the economic implications of the Kumbh Mela. The Kumbh Mela is one of the largest public gatherings in the world with a footfall of up to 150 million. The paper seeks to study the phenomenon .i.e., the Kumbh Mela, its positive traits and its fallouts. The paper aims to examine the impact that the Kumbh Mela has on the local economy and also investigate if the Kumbh City model can be replicated in India’s emerging cities. The Kumbh Mela, considered an ‘economic blessing’ by many has consequences that are largely disregarded by the government and the media. Through this paper, the negative consequences of the event are brought out with suggestions to transform these negative footprints that the festival leaves behind into positive ones.
